Replacing a battery in a BMW is not always as simple as removing the old one and installing a new one. Many BMW models use an intelligent charging system that tracks battery age, state of charge, temperature, and how much energy the vehicle uses. When a new battery goes in, the car needs to know that the old battery is gone. That is where battery registration comes in. If the replacement battery is a different type or capacity, additional programming or coding can also be needed so the charging system treats it correctly.
